TROY (WWJ) -- A Macomb County man is expected to face several charges after a traffic stop led to his arrest a week ago in Troy.
The incident happened early in the morning of Thursday, April 20, along Rochester Road near Wattles, according to Troy Police.
Shortly before 4:40 a.m., officers pulled over a man driving a 2015 Escalade for speeding, and "immediately noted a strong odor of intoxicants emanating from the vehicle," according to the police report.
After police said the driver, identified as a 33-year-old Clinton Township resident, failed a series of field sobriety tests he refused to take a breathalyzer test.
The man was arrested on a charge of Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).
Officers then searched the Escalade, and found a loaded Glock 23 .40 handgun with an extended magazine under the floormat in the backseat, behind the center console.
The driver was found to not have a concealed pistol license (CPL) and the gun was not registered.
The man was taken to the Troy Police Lock-up where he read his Chemical Test rights and again refused to take a breath test, police said.
Police got a search warrant for a blood draw, which was performed by medical staff.
The case was turned over to the Detective Bureau for appropriate warrants once the blood test results are returned.
The man's name was not released.
