WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) - Detroit police announced the arrest of two auto parts store owners after officers uncovered a criminal enterprise and an illegal marijuana growing operation.

Officers from the Commercial Auto Theft section were investigating the two properties under a search warrant on March 2 near Shaefer Highway and Joy Road when they discovered several stolen vehicles in a junkyard lot.

Police said the two men had been using illegal state forms to collect the vehicle which they dismantled, selling the parts for money. In same cases, the cars were crush in an attempt to hide that they were stolen.

The men were also ticketed for a large-scale growing operation involving hundreds of marijuana plants that was discovered by police in a nearby building.

No other details were made available and the two men are pending charges after a prosecutor's review.

In an effort to stop crime throughout the community, the Detroit Police Department encourages others to report illegal activity such as suspicious vehicle operations like this one.
