NOVI (WWJ) - Construction workers on the Flex Route along I-96 in Novi accidentally snapped an overhead powerline Tuesday afternoon, causing back ups and freeway closures as crews worked to fix the big ‘oops'.

DTE is currently on-scene deenergizing the line which fell near Meadowbrook, just west of the I-275/I-696 interchange after it was severed in half by an excavator.

The live wire ended up blocking the east and westbound lanes of travel, state police said.

According to officials, the line did hit one vehicle as it was traveling east on I-96 when it was severed, causing minor damage, but no injuries have been reported.

The freeway was closed down in both directions briefly, but has since reopened.
