Police identified Collins as a person of interest in the case Tuesday night and said his surrender was “a direct result of the support from local news media and the assistance of the public.”

Police say despite his surrender, the case is still under investigation.

Authorities say 6-year-old Batoul Alfadawi was hit just before 3 p.m. in the 7600 block of Bingham Street, near Tireman and Schaefer, and later died at Children’s Hospital.

The hit-and-run was caught on a neighbor’s surveillance camera and shows a silver or white Chevy Equinox speeding down the street right before the moment of impact.

The driver, believed to be Collins, did not stop at the scene.

Authorities are still asking anyone who has information regarding the crash to contact the Dearborn Police Department at (313) 943-2241.
