DETROIT (WWJ) – An investigation is underway after a decomposed body was found in an empty field on Detroit’s northwest side.

Police were called to the scene on Burgess Street, near Lasher and Grand River Avenue, on Sunday. Authorities were still at the scene, as of 5:30 p.m.

Many circumstances surrounding the situation remain unclear, but Detroit police officials tell WWJ they initially received a call for a person down in a field.

When officers arrived, they found the decomposed body. It was not immediately clear whether police suspect foul play.

A Detroit police spokesperson said the decomposed body will undergo an autopsy.

The investigation is ongoing. Stay tuned to WWJ Newsradio 950 for the latest updates to this story.
