DETROIT (WWJ) - Agents with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Detroit discovered 2,175 pounds of marijuana hidden among a truckload of foam pool toys on May 11.
A press release from CBP said the illicit goods were found after agents conducted an x-ray scan of an inbound semitruck at Fort Street Cargo Facility in the city.
A physical inspection assisted by K-9 officers found over one ton of marijuana concealed in boxes filled with pool toys.
The drugs were seized by CBP along with the trailer.
“This seizure underscores CBP’s long standing commitment to the border security mission,” said Port Director Devin Chamberlain said the press release. “The men and women of CBP continue to work diligently to keep our Nation and our communities safe.”
Those involved now face federal charges.
