Detroit Family Dollar employee shot after telling robbers he couldn't open cash register; 2 suspects at large

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are searching for two suspects who got away after an armed robbery and shooting at a dollar store in Detroit.

At around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, two armed men walked into the Family Dollar, in the 2200 block of W. Davison, near 14th Street.

The pair approached a 23-year-old store employee, and demanded money, according to police.

The young man complied, but when the suspects then demanded money from of the cash registers, the employee explained that he was unable to open it.

That's when police said one of the suspects fired a shot, striking the victim.

The suspects then fled the area with an undisclosed amount of money.

The wounded employee was taken to a hospital where he was treated and listed in stable condition.

On Wednesday, police released surveliece photos of the suspects, hoping that someone in the public can help identify and local them.

Suspect number one is described as a male, 5'11 - 6' tall and around 140-170 lbs., wearing a black ski mask with white designs, all black clothing, and carrying a black backpack.

Suspect two is described as a male, wearing all black clothing.
