WARREN (WWJ) – The 22-year-old man who is currently behind bars for allegedly firing shots in a parking lot outside Michigan Collegiate High School in Warren on Monday afternoon has been identified by authorities.

The incident happened around 2:40 p.m. as classes were letting out at the school near 13 Mile and Ryan Roads. A male suspect who has since been identified as Jordan Thomas of Detroit fired multiple shots into the air as a fight broke out stemming from an earlier fight.

Warren police officials say Thomas – who is not a student at the school – and several other non-students went to the school in retaliation for an earlier fight. An “associate” of the alleged shooter was suspended from school earlier in the day after a separate fight, according to police.

When students were being let out Monday, a fight broke out between two groups near the buses in front of the school. At some point, Thomas pulled out a gun and fired at least six shots into the air before fleeing the scene, officials said Monday.

No one was injured during the incident.

Around 4 p.m. Thursday members of the Warren Police Department’s Special Operations Unit found and arrested Thomas without incident at his job in Farmington. A semi-automatic handgun believed to be used in Monday’s shooting was recovered.

Thomas was arraigned on Friday and his bond was set to $500,000 cash or surety. If released, he is prohibited from having contact with the school or any victims.

Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer previously stated that the charges would include two felonies and two misdemeanors.

“Brazen acts like this are completely unacceptable and will never be tolerated. Students have a right to feel safe at school. That sense of safety was needlessly shattered by this reckless act,” Dwyer said, per a press release. “Any act of violence on school grounds will always be aggressively pursued by the Warren Police Department.”

Thomas will next appear in court for a probable cause conference on June 20 at 37th District Court in Macomb County.
