WARREN (WWJ) – An investigation is underway after a shooting near a Metro Detroit high school on Monday afternoon.
Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer tells WWJ officers were called to Michigan Collegiate High School – near Ryan and 13 Mile Roads – around 2:40 p.m. after someone fired shots during a fight involving several students.
Nobody is believed to have been hurt in the shooting, but officials say the shots were fired next to three school buses.
Police Cpt. Charles Rushton says the shots were fired while students from Collegiate High School were fighting right after the school day ended.
As the fight was unfolding, someone who is not a student at the school fired approximately six shots.
"We believe all of them were up in the air, but we haven't confirmed that yet," Rushton said.
Authorities are searching for suspects and interviewing witnesses to determine who fired the shots. Police believe the suspects fled the scene in two cars -- an older, red Chevy Impala and a blue or black Ford Focus.
It was not immediately clear what prompted the fight.
