ALPENA, Mich. (WWJ) – A Detroit man is behind bars in Northern Michigan after a homeowner caught him on camera trying to steal items from his hunting camp.

Donald Jordan Williams, 25, has been charged with second-degree home invasion and larceny from a building after allegedly breaking into a home near Ossineke – south of Alpena, along Lake Huron’s Thunder Bay – on March 27.

Michigan State Police were called to the home, which is used as a hunting camp by a man who lives downstate.

The homeowner told MSP he had installed a cellular trail camera inside the house and was watching a live feed of the masked suspect stealing items.

Williams even found the camera and took it while walking around the house stealing other items, according to MSP.

A trooper in the area was dispatched to the house and was waiting for other troopers to arrive when he saw the suspect run out the backdoor carrying multiple items.

The trooper approached the suspect and ordered him to the ground. Williams complied and was taken into custody without further incident, MSP officials said.

The stolen property was recovered.

Williams had been on parole for a home invasion last July, MSP officials said.

He is currently being held at the Alpena County Jail on a $250,000 bond. His next scheduled court appearance is April 19.
