ROMULUS (WWJ) - A tip called into Detroit Metro Airport led to the discovery of drugs packed away in luggage and the arrest of three travelers last week, authorities said.
According to The Detroit News, the Wayne County Airport Authority Police acted on a tip called into the airport on March 3; a search of the suspected bags found an estimated 65 pounds of methamphetamine and three pounds of cocaine.
The luggage allegedly belonged to three travelers who were flying from California to Tennessee; they were making a connection in Detroit when the drugs were found, said Erica Donerson, a spokeswoman for the airport.
The three travelers were arrested; their names along with additional information have not been released.
"Acting on a tip, our officers responded quickly to prevent drugs from making it onto the streets," said airport authority CEO Chad Newton, in a statement via The Detroit News.
"I’m proud of our team."
