WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ/AP) - Authorities confirm no one was hurt after a private plane slipped while attempting to land at Detroit City Airport and skidded off the runway before hitting equipment Friday afternoon.

According to airport Director Jason Watt via The Detroit News, the twin engine jet was coming in to land around 1 p.m. when it was warned of the icy conditions on the runway after a winter storm blew through the area Thursday night.

Crews were removing ice from the flight strip as the small jet came in.

The pilot attempted to make the landing, but was unable to stop the aircraft when it hit a slippery spot. It slid off the runway and crashed into airport instrument landing system equipment, Watt said.

Some damage to the plane and the equipment was reported. The pilot and his two dogs -- who were all aboard the aircraft -- were unharmed.

David Fornell, the Deputy Commissioner of the Detroit Fire Department, told The Detroit News that emergency crews were aware of the incident and will respond if their assistance is needed from airport authorities.

"There were no injuries and there was no fire," he said. "Our firefighters are standing by until it's removed from the runway."
