DETROIT (WWJ) – A man has been arrested after allegedly throwing a chair through the window of a beloved downtown Detroit speakeasy last weekend.

Located on Griswold Street, Cafe d'Mongo's Speakeasy is a longstanding fixture in downtown Detroit. The owners of the bar spoke out on Sunday morning, hours after surveillance video captured the suspect smashing the window.

Detroit police officials announced Wednesday evening the suspect had been arrested for the malicious destruction of property.

“Thank you to the community and the dedicated officers who worked together to locate and arrest this suspect,” officials said on social media.

Officials did not release the man’s name or age or say where he was arrested. A possible motive in the vandalism is not clear.

Surveillance footage shows the suspect walking down the sidewalk, then stop in front of Cafe d’Mongos. After contemplating, the suspect picks up a chair on the bar’s patio and throws it directly into the window.

Owner Larry Mongo told WDIV earlier this week that dealing with the incident and subsequent property damage took him away from caring for his sick wife, causing them both a great deal of stress.
