DETROIT (WWJ) -- In a seemingly random act of vandalism, a young man threw a chair at the entrance of a beloved Detroit speakeasy, breaking out the front window.

Located at 1439 Griswold St., Cafe d'Mongo's Speakeasy is a longstanding fixture in Downtown Detroit.

Surveillance footage posted to the bar's Facebook page shows a young white male walking along the sidewalk just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

He stops in front of the speakeasy, considers it, then picks up a chair and throws it directly into the windowfront.

He has short hair that looks to be dark blonde or brown and is wearing a black shirt with the word "MANIC" written on it in blue-green lettering.

Owner Larry Mongo told WDIV that dealing with the incident and subsequent property damage has taken him away from caring for his sick wife, causing them both a great deal of stress.

He wonders why someone would do this and is concerned about the trend of young men using violence to vent their anger.

After the window was broken, another man entered the building and was arrested. He was released a short time later once police determined he was not the man their suspect.
