
WARREN (WWJ) - An investigation is underway after a Detroit Police vehicle transporting prisoners was involved in a crash in Macomb County.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reported that four people were injured in the wreck also involving a Buick SUV, along southbound Groesbeck Hwy., just north of I-696, near 11 Mile Rd., near the Roseville border.
"The police car from Detroit, the air bags are out, front end has extensive damage," Langton reported. "And it looks like the back of the Buick has a lot of damage."
Langton said Detroit Police officers in a marked vehicle were moving prisoners from the Macomb County Jail to Detroit when the crash happened.
Four people were hurt, including a police officer, police said; although the injuries were described as minor. At least two people were taken by ambulance from the scene.
What caused the crash is unknown, as the investigation continuers.
Two lanes of southbound Groesbeck were closed as crash cleanup continued, later in the morning, but the highway has since reopened to traffic.
