Detroit police investigate 2 hit-and-run crashes that left 1 dead and 2 injured

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Two separate hit-and-run incidents in Detroit over the weekend are under investigation.

The first happened Saturday night just before 9 p.m. on the city’s east side near Gratiot Avenue and Mapleridge Street. Police say that a man was crossing Gratiot when he was hit by what may have been a gray Cadillac, which then took off.

The victim was later taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The second incident took place at about 2:30 a.m. on Sunday on West Seven Mile and Sunderland Road.

A 28-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were crossing the street when they were hit by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene.

Both of them were taken to the hospital where the man later died from his injuries. The woman remains in critical condition.

Anyone with information on either hit-and-run incident should contact Detroit police or call the crime stoppers hotline at 1-800-SPEAKUP.
