Undercover officer fatally shoots man following car crash on Detroit's east side

DETROIT (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway in Detroit after an officer-involved shooting on the city's east side left one person dead.

Second Deputy Chief Rudy Harper says a man was shot just after 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night on East Grand Boulevard and Milwaukee.

According to Harper, two undercover officers were in the area of the General Motors Factory ZERO plant when they saw about 200 people were gathered drag racing and drifting.

When other officers arrived at the scene, police say a vehicle with four people inside rammed an undercover car.

The front passenger of that vehicle then reportedly exited the car with a gun, and one of the undercover officers opened fire on the man, shooting him several times and killing him.

Officials have not yet released details on that man’s identity, and are trying to determine if he pointed the gun at officers before he was shot.

Police are currently still looking for the three others who were in the vehicle, which was said to have been stolen from Dearborn.
