DETROIT (WWJ) – The Detroit Police Department is praising the work of several officers after they saved a woman from the ice along the Detroit Riverfront earlier this month.
Officers Larson and Ibrahim, along with others in the 7th Precinct, were called to the riverfront earlier in January on the report of a woman suffering an apparent mental health crisis.

Police say as the officers approached, the woman ran to the rocks on the riverfront and then jumped onto the ice.
The department says the officers used their training to “carefully urge the woman to get off the ice, and were able to convince her to return to the rocks.”
Then they put the woman in a squad car to keep her warm and took her to the hospital.
“We commend these officers for recognizing this woman's mental distress and helping reach a safe resolve,” officials said in a Twitter post Tuesday.
Police are asking anyone who is in need of immediate mental healthcare, or knows of someone they care about that’s in need of help to call 911.
“Many of our officers have completed Crisis Intervention Training to help them respond to mental health runs,” officials with the 7th Precinct said on Twitter, noting residents can also access mental health resources from the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network.
