DETROIT (WWJ) -- A dog and her puppies are looking for new homes after being rescued by two Detroit police officers.

On Sunday, officers Kourani and Rogers with DPD’s 11th Precinct spotted a female pit bull hanging around an abandoned house that had been boarded up.

Upon entering the home, the officers discovered two newborn puppies hiding inside a mattress, one of which was tangled up in a coil.

The officers then took the mom and her puppies to the Detroit Pit Crew Rescue, where they are now safe and awaiting adoption.

“Better days are ahead for this sweet family of dogs,” the rescue wrote on Facebook.
