**UPDATE: Whitmer wins second term as Michigan's governor, says 'we are feeling damn good about where we are headed'

GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ) – Republican candidate Tudor Dixon says she’s not ready to throw in the towel yet, despite early returns showing Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer with a lead late Tuesday night.

Not long after Fox News called the race in favor of Whitmer, Dixon took the stage in Grand Rapids, saying “this race is going to be too close to call, despite what Fox thinks.”

Speaking at a ballroom inside the JW Marriott hotel downtown Grand Rapids, Dixon said results will “trickle in” throughout the night and “the major counties have a very, very long way to go.”

The Associated Press called the race shortly before 1:30 a.m., not long after Whitmer spoke at her campaign party downtown Detroit. While Whitmer didn't quite declare victory, she said her camp is "feeling damn good" about the future of the state.

With an estimated 70% of the vote counted around 2 a.m., Whitmer held a 5% lead, with less than half the votes counted in Wayne County and just under 60% in Ingham County -- both projected to have strong Democratic numbers.

While there were still many votes to be counted at the time, during her three-minute speech late Tuesday night, Dixon was banking on racking up votes in Macomb County.

“Macomb is now telling us that they won’t even have any numbers until tomorrow morning,” Dixon said. “So it’s definitely going to be a late night for us.”
