WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) — A police officer with the Detroit Police Department is facing charges stemming from alleged long-time sexual assault of a child in West Bloomfield.
Fox 2 reported that officer Michael Anthony Carson appeared for an arraignment in an Oakland County courtroom on Wednesday; charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Sources reported by Fox 2 revealed the sexual assaults involved one victim and span over seven years.
Carson could face additional charges as police across other jurisdictions have launched investigations into the officer's actions.
In a statement, Detroit Police Chief James White said he is making a request to the Board of Police Commissioners that the officer involved be suspended without pay pending the outcome of this matter.
“The allegations stemming from this investigation, which have spanned several years, are disturbing and do not represent the overwhelming majority of the hardworking men and women of the Detroit Police Department. The DPD will continue to cooperate with the investigation," White said.
The judge ruled Carson be held on a $750,000 cash/surety bond.
No other information about the allegations were immediately released.
