It's alleged that the man, behind the wheel of a Dodge Charger Hellcat, was "highly intoxicated"

(WWJ) An alleged drunk driver was arrested over the weekend after Michigan State Police troopers clocked him at 150 miles per hour on I-696.

Police said the 28-year-old man was caught when he ran out of gas.

At 2:15 a.m. Sunday, troopers said they spotted a white Dodge Charger Hellcat traveling at "an excessive speed" on westbound I-696, near I-75 in Royal Oak.

The driver got up to over 150 mph, police said, before troopers lost sight of him. Minutes later, troopers found the suspect at Greenfield Road near I-696, pushing his car off the roadway into a parking lot.

After further investigation, police said it was discovered that the speeding driver ran out of gas in the middle of the roadway.

The suspect allegedly admitted to what MSP called his "reckless acts," and was found to be "highly intoxicated," police said.

The man awaits expected charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence, pending a prosecutor review of the investigation. His name has not yet been released.

MSP noted that this case serves as a reminder to "always check your fuel gauge."

No injuries were reported.
