(WWJ) A South Lyon man has died of injuries he suffered in a single-car crash in Oakland County.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting deputies with the investigation of the accident, Monday afternoon on Silver Lake Rd. near Dixboro Rd. in Lyon Township.
Sheriff's officials say an 81-year-old man was driving a 2020 Chevy Equinox eastbound on the curved portion of Silver Lake Rd. when he ran off the roadway and hit a tree.
The driver was alert at the scene and told deputies that he had fallen asleep behind the wheel, according to the sheriff's office.

The man was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he was initially listed as stable, but succumbed to his injuries a couple of hours later.
The driver, whose name has not been released, was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in this crash, officials said.
No one else was hurt.
The investigation is ongoing.
