DETROIT (WWJ) – The driver of a van is dead after slamming into a Jeep while driving the wrong way on I-75 in downtown Detroit late Saturday night.

Michigan State Police officials say the 37-year-old driver entered the southbound lanes going north and crashed into the Jeep near Bagley Street around 11:30 p.m.

Officials have not released the victim’s name or gender, but said the at-fault driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was not immediately clear whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, as medical examiner reports, toxicology reports and vehicle inspections are all still pending.

A 35-year-old woman driving the Jeep and a 39-year-old man inside were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

MSP officials are still investigating the crash. All involved parties in the crash have been identified and their families have been notified.
