A driver was taken into custody last night after hitting a police cruiser while trying to get around a crash backup on a frigid night with sometimes blizzard-like conditions.
The incident happened around 11:30 as traffic was at a complete stop on the I-275 ramp to I-94.
A Michigan State Police cruiser was on the left shoulder, waiting for a tow truck to clear the crash when the suspect started passing waiting traffic on the left.
Making matter worse, the suspect then attempted to wedge himself between the cruiser and a semi-truck ... hitting both.
As the suspect drove through the crash scene, the trooper attempted to stop him, but said the suspect fled.
Eventually, he lost control and slid into the center median, where he was arrested without incident. Police say no one was injured, but their patrol car received some minor damage. Charges are now pending.
