
Mother Nature walloped metro Detroit communities with anywhere from 6 to 10 inches of snow, enveloping communities in a blanket of white.
The 7.2 inches that was recorded at Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Romulus broke a record for Monday, Feb 15. The last record was 5 inches set on Feb. 15, 1898.
Snow was falling at a rate of 0.5 inches an hour north of interstates 96 and 696 late Monday, the National Weather Service said.
Storm reports from trained spotters with the National Weather Service show more than 8 inches of snow fell on Shelby Township and Romulus. More than 7 inches was reported in Grosse Ile and White Lake Township in Oakland County.
"It's looking like we're going to get every bit of that 6 to 10 inches," Accuweather's Dean DeVore saidon WWJ 950.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon today. The snow shut down schools and colleges and caused the rescheduling of two coronavirus vaccination events.
Many cities in Metro Detroit declared snow emergencies as a winter weather warning continues for much of the region until noon Tuesday.
School districts including Gibraltar, Huron, Brighton Area Schools, Bloomfield Hills Schools, L'Anse Creuse, Lincoln Park and Ann Arbor canceled classes.
