TROY (WWJ) -- A Detroit man is facing several charges after police say he was so drunk while driving on New Year's Eve that he didn't even know where he was.

The 41-year-old driver, in a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was pulled over by Troy Police officers just before 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2022, after police say he committed multiple traffic violations in the area of Dequindre and Long Lake roads.

Officers said the driver's eyes were "glossed over" and the car smelled a little bit like booze.

While talking with police, the man allegedly admitted to drinking what he said was just "a sip" of alcohol before driving.

The driver also told police that he didn't realize he was in Troy, and thought he was still in the City of Detroit.

After he failed several field sobriety tests, according to police, the driver refused to take a preliminary breath test.

He was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up where he agreed to submit to a Chemical Breath with results of .32% and .33% BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration).

Under Michigan's Super Drunk Laws, drivers with a BAC more than twice the state's legal limit of .08% face stiffer penalties, a possible jail term of up to 180 days if convicted.

Police said the man was issued a citation for Operating with a Blood Alcohol Content of .17% or More, Driving While License Suspended and PBT Refusal.

His name was not immediately released.
