DETROIT (WWJ) -- An investigation continues after a deadly crash on Detroit’s west side early Wednesday morning that left a man and a young child dead.
It all unfolded around 1:30 a.m. on 7 Mile Road near the Southfield Freeway, when a 23-year-old woman’s car collided with another vehicle driven by a 37-year-old man. The man and the woman’s 4-year-old child were both killed in the crash.
Police had initially arrested the woman and held her in custody at a hospital while she was listed in temporary serious condition, as she was suspected of driving drunk.
But authorities have since released the woman from custody, say “at this point in our investigation, it has been determined that she was not under the influence of alcohol.” S
Police now believe the man, who was driving a Chevy Impala was responsible for the crash, but have not released any further details.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Detroit Police Department’s Fatal Squad at 313-596-2260. Calls can also be made anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
