CHESTERFIELD TWP. (WWJ) – An Eastpointe man is being held on a $2 million cash bond after being charged with shooting a man to death outside a Chesterfield Township apartment last weekend.
Dejon Drake, 24, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of second-degree murder, felony firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
Chesterfield Twp. police officers were called to the Aspen Creek Apartments on 23 Mile Road early Saturday after getting reports of a shooting.
When officers showed up they found a 27-year-old man lying on the ground outside his apartment with a gunshot wound. While officers attempted lifesaving measures at the scene before EMS showed up, the victim died at the hospital.
Police quickly arrested Drake near the scene, officials said Saturday.
Authorities say the shooting was the result of an argument and a physical fight inside the apartment, though it is not clear what sparked the dispute prior to the gunfire.
If Drake is able to pay his bond, he must be fitted with a GPS tether and have a mental health evaluation prior to his release. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 9.
