
OAK PARK (WWJ) -- An elderly Oakland County woman is in custody after a deadly hit-and-run on Monday night.
Investigators at the Oak Park Department of Public Safety told Fox 2 Detroit that a 59-year-old woman was hit by a red Dodge Journey while walking home from a store with a friend near Coolidge Highway and 10 Mile Road.
According to police, the driver of the SUV never stopped.
The victim had trouble breathing after she was hit, but she was able to talk to emergency crews, Fox 2 reports.
She was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Officials were able to track down the driver by viewing the license plate number on surveillance footage.
The suspect, an elderly Oak Park woman, was arrested Tuesday night, said Fox 2.
The driver's identity has not been released, as she is awaiting charges.
