OXFORD (WWJ) – An elderly Oxford Township man is in critical condition after a crash with a gravel hauler in Oxford Township Tuesday morning.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office says the 82-year-old man was driving his 2012 Buick LaCrosse northbound on Lapeer Road around 8:30 a.m.

Officials say the man was entering the intersection of Lapeer and Drahner Road at the same time as a 47-year-old Attica man driving a Peterbilt tandem gravel hauler southbound on Lapeer.

The elderly driver turned left in front of the truck, causing a crash. Police said it is not clear which driver had the right of way at the time of the crash.

Authorities say the gravel hauler was loaded with sand and one trailer was overturned during the collision.

The driver of the Buick was taken to the hospital. He was listed in critical condition late Tuesday afternoon. Authorities say he was wearing his seatbelt.

The truck driver was taken to the hospital and has since been released. It is unknown whether the truck driver was wearing a seatbelt.

Neither alcohol nor drug use appear to be factors in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators from the Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit are handling the case.
