(WWJ) A now-former Detroit Lions player has been arraigned on a four-count warrant stemming from a wrong-way crash on the freeway in Detroit over the weekend.

Appearing in 36th District Court on Tuesday, Alexander "Alex" Brown of South Carolina was given $50,000 cash/surety, 10% bond on the condition that he wear an with an alcohol tether, according to Michigan State Police.

The judge also ordered that Brown surrender his passport.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office alleges that 24-year-old cornerback was intoxicated and speeding in the wrong direction on I-75 near Mack Ave., early Sunday morning, when he crashed head-on into another vehicle.

Brown was not seriously hurt, but the Detroit Lions said tight end Charlie Taumoepeau — a passenger in Brown's car — is still recovering. Officials said the 23-year-old suffered serious neck injuries and had to be cut out of the car by firefighters.

The driver of the other vehicle involved, identified by authorities as a 27-year-old Detroit man, suffered serious leg injuries.

The Lions cut Brown from the team on Sunday.

On Monday, the team released a statement saying, "We are aware of the incident from Sunday morning involving Alex Brown. Brown was waived from the team and Charlie Taumoepeau is receiving proper medical care following injuries sustained from the incident."

"Driving under the influence is a matter we take very seriously. We, as an organization, extend our thoughts and support to the victim and his family during his recovery."

Brown is charged with two counts of Operating While Under the Influence (OWI) Causing Serious Injury, and two counts of Reckless Driving Causing Serious Injury.

His next court date is set for Sept. 2.
