FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) – Farmington Hills police are releasing more details about an investigation into alleged sexual assaults involving a local doctor who conducted medical exams connected to youth hockey programs.
Dr. Zvi Levran was arrested and charged with criminal sexual conduct last month after a 19-year-old man reported he was sexually assaulted during an exam at the doctor’s home office. That was just the start of what has become a sprawling investigation.
Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King announced Wednesday, since receiving that first report, police have received 33 additional tips regarding alleged sexual abuse by Levran. King could not disclose how many individual victims were among the 33 tips, but said at least five cases have been presented to prosecutors outside of the Farmington Hills jurisdiction.
Levran was arraigned on Oct. 22 for the initial case, charged with four counts of 3rd-degree criminal sexual conduct and three counts of 4th-degree CSC. He was given a cash/surety bond and release conditions.
Based on information found in the initial investigation, police set up a 24-hour tip line for anyone with information on that case or other similar incidents. That tip line led to the 33 additional tips, King said.
Last Thursday, based on the ongoing investigations, authorities submitted four additional investigations to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, leading to 10 more charges spanning the four cases.
Those charges include one count of 2nd-degree CSC, one count of 3rd-degree CSC and eight counts of fourth-degree CSC.
Levran surrendered to investigators and was arraigned the next day. Bond was set at $1 million.
Speaking at a press conference Wednesday, King said tips have come from several local communities, including Farmington Hills, Novi, Livonia, West Bloomfield and Redford. But they’ve also received tips from California, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona and Canada.
Officials said Levran has had offices in Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield and Livonia. He is also licensed in four other states, including Ohio, Minnesota, Iowa and Georgia.
King said each and every tip has been assigned to a Farmington Hills investigator for follow-up investigation, and some of them have traveled to other jurisdictions to try to speak with survivors of Levran’s alleged abuse.
Authorities are urging any other potential survivors of Levran to come forward by contacting the tip line at 248-871-2610.
