PITTSFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - Troopers believe distracted driving was at work when a driver failed to slow down for traffic and struck three vehicles, killing on person in Washtenaw County.

MSP said the fatal crash occurred around 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, with Brighton troopers dispatched to eastbound I-94 near Ann Arbor Saline Rd in Pittsfield Twp.

Police said a preliminary investigation showed a 29-year-old driver was traveling on eastbound I-94 when it plowed into a vehicle that was slowing down for traffic.

The at-fault vehicle then rolled as a result of the impact, hitting two other vehicles in the process.

MSP said the driver of the vehicle that was initially hit died at the scene.

The deceased was identified as Jeremy Keith Cornett, 41, of Taylor, police revealed on Thursday.

There were no injuries reported from the occupants of the other two vehicles involved in the crash.

Police said the at-fault driver is a 29-year-old from Rives Junction -- their name was not released as of Thursday evening.

While the incident remains under investigation, police said the 29-year-old is suspected of driving while distracted.
