FBI offers $10K reward for info in case of Michigan man whose skeletal remains were found in woods

(WWJ) Authorities are hoping a $10,000 reward will bring in the tip that will help them solve a four-year-old murder mystery.

The FBI and Michigan State Police are asking the public for help identifying the person, or people, responsible for the murder of Jerome Deshaun Ezell, who disappeared from the Lansing area in the fall of 2017.

Ezell, 27, was reported missing to the Lansing Township Police Department on Nov. 7 of that year.

With the help of OnStar, Ezell's vehicle was found near on N. Fairview St. in the Groesbeck neighborhood on Lansing's west side, with his infant son strapped into his car seat inside.

Over the next 13 months, Ezell's family held multiple search parties and started a GoFundMe page to hire a private Investigator to look for him.

Then, on Dec. 12, 2018, Ezell's remains were discovered in a wooded area off I-94 in Lawrence, which is west of Kalamazoo in Van Buren County, and police began investigating the case as a homicide.

According to a "Justice for Jerome" Facebook group, loved ones believe that Ezell was abducted with his baby in the car, and that the 5-month-old child was spared while his father was murdered. "The family of Jerome Ezell will not rest until justice for him is served," the page reads.

Family members say Ezell was the father of seven children, including one who was born after his murder whom he never got to meet.

As the investigation continues, anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sgt. Troy Johnston of the MSP at 517-898-1285, Crime Stoppers at 517-483-STOP, or the FBI Detroit office at 313-965-2323.
