Ferndale police searching for suspects randomly shooting people with airsoft gun

(WWJ) Ferndale police are on the hunt for a suspect, or suspects wanted for randomly shooting people on the streets with an airsoft gun.

It happened at least twice as the victims were out walking Wednesday afternoon, according to Ferndale Police Officer Jillian Mallmeister.

First a woman, then a man reported that someone in a vehicle driving by fired the Airsoft gun — a replica toy gun that shoots plastic pellets.

One of the shootings took place near the city's skate park.

"In one of the instances was a female. She said she was struck in her left hip area. She complained of pain, minor injuries," Mallmeister told WWJ's Sandra McNeill. "A second one said he was struck several times in the lower back."

Mallmeister said police do believe the two incidents are related, as the suspect vehicle in both cases was described as a newer model Silver Honda SUV.

At this time, police have no description of the suspects, but Mallmeister thinks they might be juveniles or young adults.

Police could use some tips from the public as the investigation continues.

Anyone with information should call the Ferndale Police Department at 248-541-3650.
