SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) – A fire that started inside of a Tubby’s sub shop in Southfield on Monday has left several other businesses damaged.
Southfield firefighters responded to the fire at a small strip mall along Northwestern Highway, just south of 12 Mile Road, Monday afternoon.
Officials tell WWJ they were able to quickly extinguish the fire after arriving, though it did cause some damage to neighboring businesses, including a Thai restaurant and a dry cleaner.
Those businesses and all others in the strip mall were closed because of the fire, but officials did not disclose the extent of the damage.
No one was hurt in the fire, officials said.
Fire Battalion Chief Patrick Charette told WWJ the fire appears to have started in the ceiling, though crews are still investigating what caused it.
It was the second fire that crews responded to in Southfield on Monday, after a blaze destroyed at least eight apartments at Cranbrook Centre Apartments and left multiple people displaced.
