(WWJ) – Led by Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, the newly formed MI Pet Alliance is taking steps to protect pets across Michigan.
The group used National Pet Day on Tuesday to announce plans for a ballot initiative that would create a law in Michigan requiring animal abusers to sign up in a statewide database, similar to the sex offender registry. The goal is to get the measure before voters in November 2024.
On a new Daily J podcast, WWJ's Zach Clark learns that by law in Michigan, abused animals are often treated like they are the criminal – and Swanson wants to change that.
