FLINT (WWJ) – Wednesday is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Just how big of a problem is it here in Michigan? In 2021 the National Human Trafficking Hotline documented just under 300 cases, with nearly 430 total victims.
On Tuesday Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson shared more chilling details in a brutal human trafficking and sexual abuse case involving Michael Barajas, dubbed the “Michigan Monster.” Barajas is accused of filing down his teeth to points and threatening to rip a victim’s throat out. Swanson revealed Tuesday Barajas’ abuse goes back nearly two decades and authorities are searching for more victims.
On a new Daily J podcast, WWJ’s Zach Clark hears about the shocking case out of Flint and heads to the front lines to see what the fight against trafficking looks like in Michigan.
