HARPER WOODS (WWJ) -- A Harper Woods man, accused of killing his girlfriend and father and stabbing his mother, is in police custody at a Detroit hospital.
The 23-year-old suspect barricaded himself inside a home on Kenosha Street near I-94 and Moross around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Authorities say after the shooting and stabbing of those inside the home, the mother went to a neighbor's home with a knife stuck in her back. According to the neighbor, the woman said that her son stabbed her, his girlfriend and his father. She is in critical condition.
The incident then turned into a barricade situation, when the man went back inside the home and began shooting at Harper Woods police and Michigan State Police who formed a perimeter around the home. No officers were hurt.
He then set the house on fire and surrendered after smoke filled the home.
According to FOX 2 Detroit, SWAT teams eventually breached the home, where they found a fire that had been set in an upstairs room.
The alleged stabber was arrested.
"He was in custody before they brought the bodies out -- before they even found out there were bodies in there," said Ruth.
The entire incident lasted about seven hours.
Harper Woods police say they are in the preliminary stages of the investigation. Charges are pending.
