EMMET COUNTY (WWJ) - Country music singers may have sung about digging their keys into the side of an ex-lover's car, but one woman in northern Michigan is accused of taking it a step further after she allegedly set fire to a number of her ex-boyfriend’s possessions – including his house, police said.
Troopers in Littlefield Township said they responded to a home off Miller Road, west of Burt Lake, back in September of 2021 after a homeowner said he came back to his property to find his dirt bike, his truck and some of his house had been set on fire.
The man told state police he suspected his ex-girlfriend, 37-year-old Heather Joy Sharpe-Embom from Indian River, was responsible for the damage.
Investigators with the MSP Fire Marshall processed the scene for evidence, which included taking footwear impressions found on the property, police said.
MSP’s Crime Lab processed the evidence and was able to determine the fire was started using gasoline.
On May 5th, a warrant was issued by the Emmet County Prosecutor’s Office for Sharpe-Embom’s arrest.
The woman turned herself into authorities on June 30 and she was arraigned on one count of Fourth Degree Arson on Friday, July 15.
The judge set Sharpe-Embom’s bond at $5,000 cash surety -- she is due back in court on August 17.
