ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) -- Accused Oxford High School shooter Ethan Crumbley will not be getting out of jail, at least for now.

During a brief court hearing Thursday, an Oakland County again denied a request to move Crumbly from the adult jail jail to the Children's Village youth facility. The 16-year-old is charged as an adult with four counts of first degree murder, along with terrorism and other charges in the Nov. 30, 2021, shooting that killed four students and injured six more students and a teacher.

"I do believe that the defendant's placement at the Oakland County Jail continues to be in the interest of justice, and I do find good cause to extend his placement at the Oakland County Jail," Judge Kwame Roe stated during the hearing, which was held via Zoom.

Under Michigan law, a judge must review Crumbley's status every 30 days The next review will be on June 23, at 9 a.m. in-person.

Crumbley's tentative trial date has been scheduled for Sept. 6, roughly six weeks before his parents' trial on involuntary manslaughter charges begins.

Crumbley's defense lawyers have indicated they intend to prove that the teen was insane at the time of the shootings.
