BATTLE CREEK (WWJ) -- Almost 1,400 striking Kellogg's workers may be leaving the picket line after Christmas as a deal is about to be reached.

Kellogg's reached a tentative agreement with the union representing the striking workers on Thursday.

Key issues from the last agreement were addressed, including the issue of the 2-tier wage system -- in which transitional employees received lesser pay and benefits compared with longer-tenured workers.

The agreement also included cost-of-living raises and removed the term "legacy employee," but it does not include a deal on retiree health care or a cap on lower-tier employees.

Cost of living wage adjustments would take place for all employees.

A vote on the deal is expected to take place Sunday and votes will be counted on Tuesday, Dec. 21.

If the agreement is ratified, workers will return to the plant on Dec. 27.

The workers have been on strike since Oct. 5.
