Search continues for D’Wan Sims after DNA results not a match for local man

LIVONIA (WWJ) -- The whereabouts of D’Wan Sims remain a mystery after what seemed like a promising lead yielded no answers.

DNA test results recently showed that a man who claimed to be the boy who went missing 26 years ago was not a match.

Sims, who would now be 30-years-old, was first reported missing by his mother while they were shopping at Wonderland Mall on December 11, 1994.

The man who was tested came forward in 2019 on Facebook claiming he could possibly be Sims, though that theory has now been officially disputed.

“We got a DNA sample and we sent it into a lab and we got the results recently,” Livonia Police captain Thomas Goralski told WWJ. “The results of the DNA for that gentleman compared to D’Wan Sims’ was negative. So he is not a match for D’Wan Sims.”

The case remains open as a missing person.
