Police: man made threats to blow up Metro Detroit mosques, intentionally rammed cars driven by people of color

DEARBORN (WWJ) – A man accused of making statements about “blowing up mosques” around the Detroit area has been arrested after police caught him intentionally ramming vehicles driven by people of color.

Dearborn police officials say a 60-year-old man was driving in a blue sedan from Minneapolis to Detroit on Tuesday when he was stopped by Michigan State Police near Kalamazoo.

MSP had received information about a possible threat to houses of worship in the Metro Detroit area on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities then

MSP troopers arrested the suspect, whose name has not been released, near Paw Paw, Mich., after reportedly ramming 11 vehicles, Dearborn police officials said.

According to victim statements, the man is believed to have intentionally rammed into “vehicles driven by persons of color,” officials said.

After his arrest, the man continued to make disparaging remarks about women and minorities during encounters with police.

Police did not find any weapons or explosives in the vehicle. He is currently being held at the Van Buren County Jail, pending charges.

The FBI is continuing to investigate the case, as the incident involves houses of worship.

The subject did not enter Dearborn city limits at any point and police officials say there are no known threats to the public.

The suspect is believed to have been working alone.

After learning of the potential threats, Dearborn Police stationed officers at all mosques in the City.
