
(WWJ) An Eastpointe man is behind bars on multiple felony charges after allegedly carjacking a woman and forcing her to take him to her apartment.
Johnny Jackson, 43, was arrested nearly a day after police say he kidnapped the woman at an Eastpointe gas station on Sunday.
A day The next day the victim, whose name and age were not released, was able to notify a relative about what had happened, and that person called police.
When police got the call on Monday, offered surrounded the victim's apartment building on 9 Mile Rd, at Dale. Eventually, the victim was able to escape from the apartment and run to the officers.
Jackson was then taken into custody, and a handgun was recovered from the apartment.
"Our officers, detectives, dispatchers, and our police service aide did a fantastic job working as a team to bring this situation to a safe ending," police said, in a statement.
Jackson is charged with Carjacking, Unlawful Imprisonment, Receiving and Concealing a Stolen Firearm, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm.
He was arraigned in the 38th District Court on Wednesday. Bond was set at $750,000 cash/surety and Jackson remains in the Macomb County awaiting his next court date.
The department urged the public to always speak up if they see something suspicius.
"If you see what appears to be a carjacking or a man forcing a woman into a car at gunpoint happening at a gas station, or anywhere, please call 9-1-1," police said. "Even if it turns out not to be a carjacking, every police department in the United States, possibly the world, would rather investigate a suspicious situation than miss a chance to arrest a carjacking perpetrator and save someone from being the victim of a violent crime. If you see something, say something!"
Jackson faces up to life in prison if convicted as charged.
