MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (WWJ) – An investigation is underway after a man rammed his vehicle into the Macomb County Administration building Saturday night, then tried to inflict more damage at the county sheriff’s office before turning himself in.

It all unfolded around 7 p.m., officials tell WWJ when the man jumped the curb and slammed his Honda into the glass side of the Administration Building. He then backed his car up and did it again, Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel told WWJ.

Hackel said the incident caused “quite a bit of damage"

The 28-year-old driver, whose name has not been released, pending charges, then drove about three miles to the county sheriff’s office and ran into an external generator.

“When he ran into it, it did very little damage, but he left his car there, walked over to the front doors of the county sheriff’s office and turned himself in,” Hackel said.

Hackel says the man admitted to ramming into the building and the generator on purpose. It was not clear what motivated the man in the incidents.

Nobody was inside the administrative building at the time of the crash and there were no injuries reported in either incident.

Crews were on the scene at the administrative building on Saturday night, boarding up the damaged part of the building until a construction crew can come to reconstruct what was damaged.

There was no structural damage to the building, according to Hackel, but the partitions that hold up the glass windows were severely damaged.

Normal operations at the building are expected to resume on Monday morning.
