WARREN (WWJ) -- Police are investigating how a man in Macomb County fell down a 60-foot staircase inside a pump station Tuesday morning.
The Warren Fire Department told WWJ that workers inside located the man on a grated walkway just after 7:15 a.m. at a pump station on Nine Mile Road, between Hayes and Schoenherr roads.
Investigators believe the man made it about halfway down the spiral staircase before he fell the rest of the way down.
Firefighters had to lift him out using a crane. Officials said he was conscious and talking with the rescuers.
He was taken to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
It's not clear whether the man worked at the pump station.
No other details have been released at this time.
