Man fatally shot by Kalamazoo police; MSP investigate

KALAMAZOO (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are conducting an investigation after a man was shot dead by a Kalamazoo cop.

According to officials, at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, officers were called to a neighborhood south of the city's downtown area for "suspected criminal activity."

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said upon arrival, a 33-year-old Battle Creek man fired shot at the officers from a handgun.

An officer then returned fire, fatally striking the man.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured.
