(WWJ) Police are investigating unusual circumstances surrounding a deadly shooting at an apartment in Ann Arbor.

Investigators say the occupants of the apartment, in the 2200 block of S. State Street, claim the victim was high on drugs, acting erratically and armed with an AK-47 at the time of the incident Friday evening.

"The initial call was for an emotionally disturbed person armed with a gun, allegedly holding occupants of the apartment against their will and making threats to harm or kill them," according to a release by Ann Arbor Police.

The victim, identified as 33-year-old John Myrick IV of Detroit, was dead by the time police arrived.

He was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, police said.

An autopsy has been conducted by the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner's Office, but the results are still pending.

Police said the victim was visiting his 23-year-old brother at the apartment when the incident occurred. The others present included a 21-year-old man who lives in the apartment, his 21-year-old girlfriend from Detroit, and another 27-year-old male resident.

It's alleged by people who were there that Myrick attacked two of them before he was shot. Police have not said who shot him.

No charges have yet been filed as the investigation continues.
